Weenta Productions is currently in post-productions on a video featuring local spoken word poet A Scribe Called Quess? The video is for Blights Out, an organization made up of citizens, artists and activists fighting for more equitable housing in New Orleans. For this video we were on the lookout for a space that would give us the look and feel of abandonment to match the tone of Quess' poetry. We found our space in the Upper Ninth ward, right across the street from the commercial artspace PORT.
Quess was an amazing artist to work with on a video production. He knew his lines so well that we did full run throughs on each take. Plus, without any direction from us, he showed up in character (as a gentrifier with a certain air of pretention) dressed in a dapper button down shirt, tie, cargo pants and loafers.
We were racing against the sunset the entire shoot and used up all the daylight we could before we had to call it a wrap. Here's me striking a pose at the end of our shoot with our cart full of equipment. We're excited to debut the final edit of the video, which will be posted to our website in late October.
